Biography
Practice Philosophy
Dr. Aronoff's work is based on the belief that that people want to be happy, effective and successful in their lives and that they have within themselves the resources to achieve these goals. She believes that psychotherapy can help individuals most effectively use their resources to increase self-understanding, to improve decision-making, to solve problems, and to create paths to the lives they want. She offers a compassionate therapeutic approach that includes recognized and accepted psychotherapies, training for behavioral changes, as well as Existential Psychotherapy (talk therapy addressing life meaning, goals & choices), and hypnosis.
Background and Clinical Training
Dr. Karen Aronoff began her work in the mental health field in Miami, Florida in 1988, where she worked in a multi-cultural and multiethnic environment. She moved to Bellingham, Washington in 1999, where, before she began her private practice in 2001, she worked at the Western Washington University Counseling Center. Dr. Aronoff has conducted anxiety reduction and stress management groups at Washington State University and other venues. She has taught in the Psychology and Management Departments at The University of Miami, Carlos Albizu University in Miami and Western Washington University and is an experienced meeting facilitator and focus-group leader. She has 15 years of management and administrative experience.
Dr. Aronoff earned her Doctor of Clinical Psychology and Master's of Psychology degrees at The Miami Institute for Psychology, now Carlos Albizu University. She completed her internship in clinical and counseling psychology at Washington State University. Her MBA from Indiana University focused on Management and Organizational Behavior. Each of her psychology training and internship institutions is accredited by the American Psychological Association.
Licensure & Affiliations
Dr. Aronoff is a Clinical Psychologist licensed in the State of Washington. Every three years, Dr. Aronoff completes a minimum of sixty hours of continuing education to maintain the quality of the services she provides to her clients. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the professional association for psychologists, and of the Consulting Division of that organization. Dr. Aronoff is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the Trichotillomania Learning Center. She is listed as a referral psychologist on the following national websites:
